About Us

The Cooperatively Owned Bakery (and why it's the best)

We are a worker-owned, community-focused bakery and teaching space, located in Pittsburgh PA.
Third Space Bakery promotes the essential "third space" that we must cultivate for healthy and fulfilling lives: existing outside our usual first and second spaces of home and work, third spaces engage  our creative, social, and independent selves, while creating community between us.
Our bakery represents not just essential nourishment that is found in hearty grain products, but also the emotional and social nourishment we find in joyful baking and the opportunities to bond over food with each other.

When she’s not elbow-deep in dough, Chloe enjoys outdoor activities, including biking, hiking, camping, sticking her hands in dirt, foraging, and going out for ice cream (yes, this counts).

After earlier work in the field of child development, Beth returned to the classroom and earned a MA in Food Studies from Chatham University in 2015. This new journey led her to work as a teaching kitchen instructor, food tour guide and freelance food writer. Volunteering in a variety of kitchens, exploring local beers, cooking, crafting and home projects consume her spare time.

Nick Webster, our first hire, is our first worker to become part-owner of Third Space Bakery! In 2020, Nick left university to commit his sourdough baking passion into a career. Having always wanted to teach, Third Space has become the perfect place for him to share skills with our community.  For Nick, baking is all about the craft and each loaf of bread or batch of pastries is a chance to get a little bit better at something every day, while feeding people along the way.
